Crowd control
Every kind of crowd control, what each one stops you doing, and how tenacity and cleanse effects interact with them.
Crowd control (CC) is any effect that takes away part of a champion's control over their own actions: where they can move, whether they can attack or cast. Landing it decides most fights, and so does dodging it.
Hard and soft crowd control
Hard CC takes away movement and actions entirely or forces a movement on you. Soft CC restricts one thing and leaves the rest. A stun is hard; a slow is soft.
Types of crowd control
| Effect | What it stops | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Stun | Moving, attacking, casting | The plainest hard CC. |
| Airborne | Moving, attacking, casting | Knock-ups, knock-backs and pulls. Not shortened by tenacity. |
| Suppression | Moving, attacking, casting | Usually from an ultimate that channels on you. Not shortened by tenacity. |
| Root | Moving and dashing | You can still attack and cast in place. |
| Slow | Part of your move speed | Only the strongest slow on you applies. |
| Silence | Casting abilities | Attacks and movement still work. |
| Disarm | Basic attacks | Abilities and movement still work. |
| Blind | Basic attacks land | Attacks miss and their on-hit effects do not apply. |
| Grounded | Dashes and blinks | Walking still works; Flash does not. |
| Taunt | Your own choices | You walk at and attack the champion who taunted you. |
| Fear / flee | Your own choices | You walk away from the source. |
| Charm | Your own choices | You walk towards the source. |
| Sleep | Everything | Ends early when you take damage. |
| Polymorph | Attacking and casting | You are turned into a harmless critter and slowed. |
| Nearsight | Your vision | Your sight radius shrinks to a small circle. |
Tenacity
Tenacity shortens the duration of crowd control on you. It comes from some boots, items, runes and abilities. Several sources combine multiplicatively, so two sources of 30% give 51%, not 60%. Airborne effects and suppression ignore it entirely.
Removing crowd control
CleanseSummoner spell
- Cleanse (the summoner spell) removes the disables on you and briefly makes you resist new ones. It does not remove suppression or airborne effects.
- Quicksilver item actives remove every disable including suppression, but not airborne.
- Some champion abilities grant immunity to crowd control while they last; their tooltips say so.
