Champion stats explained
What every champion stat does, how stats grow with level, and how attack speed and move speed are calculated.
Every champion starts a game with the same set of stats at different values, and most of them grow each time the champion levels up. The champion stats table shows every champion's numbers at any level; this page explains what they mean.
The stats
- Health (HP)
- How much damage the champion can take before dying.
- Health regen (HP5)
- Health recovered over time, quoted per 5 seconds. Faster in your base's fountain.
- Resource
- What abilities cost. Most champions use mana; others use energy, fury, heat or nothing at all. Only mana grows with level.
- Attack damage (AD)
- The damage of a basic attack, and what many physical abilities scale with.
- Ability power (AP)
- Starts at zero for everyone and comes from items and runes. Most magic abilities scale with it.
- Attack speed (AS)
- Basic attacks per second.
- Armor and magic resist (MR)
- Reduce physical and magic damage taken. See damage and mitigation.
- Attack range
- How far a basic attack reaches. Melee champions sit around 125 to 175; ranged ones from roughly 425 to 650.
- Move speed (MS)
- How fast the champion walks.
- Critical strike chance
- The chance a basic attack crits for extra damage. Zero for every champion until items add it.
- Ability haste
- Shortens cooldowns. See ability haste.
- Life steal and omnivamp
- Heal for a share of damage dealt: life steal from basic attacks, omnivamp from all damage.
- Tenacity
- Shortens most crowd control on you. See crowd control.
- Heal and shield power
- Increases the heals and shields you give, mostly found on support items.
How stats grow with level
A champion's growth stat ("+104 health per level") is not added in equal steps. Early levels add a bit less than the listed amount and later levels a bit more, along this curve:
stat at level n = base + growth × (n − 1) × (0.7025 + 0.0175 × (n − 1))Level 2 adds 72% of the growth value, while the step from level 17 to 18 adds about 128%. This is why champions with big growth stats feel weak early and strong late.
Attack speed
Attack speed is the one stat that grows as a percentage. A champion has a base attack speed and an attack speed ratio, which is usually the same number. Bonus attack speed from levels, items and runes is added up as a percentage and multiplied by the ratio:
attack speed = base AS + ratio × total bonus AS %Attack speed is capped at 2.5 attacks per second unless a champion's own kit lifts the cap.
Move speed
Flat bonuses (from boots) are added first, then percentage bonuses multiply the result. Very high move speed is softened: beyond a first threshold each extra point counts for less, and beyond a second for less again, so stacking speed past a point brings little.
