Armor naturally reduces the rate that attacks go through Granite Shield, so Brutal Strikes will strengthen the shield against physical damage.

Despite his abilities scaling on Armor, some games require Malphite to get Magic Resist. When those games occur, try getting Aegis of the Legion, Mercury's Treads, and Guardian Angel.

Against Malphite

If you're a physical damage character stay behind your allies when fighting Malphite. Ground Slam can significantly reduce your damage output.

Malphite is one of a couple tanks who are capable of jungling. Watch out if he gets Smite.

Ability details

Innate - Shard of the Monolith: Malphite gains increased percentage size equal to 8% of his total armor, capped at 35% increased size at armor.
Innate - Granite Shield: Malphite grants himself a shield equal to 10% of his maximum health. The shield lasts until it is broken, and replenishes to full strength after a few seconds of not taking damage.

Notes

Malphite's increased size is affected by his base armor and growth, but also reduced by Black Cleaver. His increased size does not consider bonus armor.
The bonus will become a size reduction if Malphite is dropped to negative armor values.
Granite Shield does not refresh its cooldown from damage that is mitigated by shields.
