How to play against Varus

To beat Varus in Top on patch 26.20, start by knowing what you are up against: Varus is an off-meta pick this patch with a 47.5% win rate across 14,676 ranked games at a 0.9% pick rate. The champions that beat Varus hardest right now are Olaf, Sett, Yasuo: Olaf wins 60.2% of the lane against it. Any of these is a safe counter pick. Varus scales: its win rate climbs to 48.4% past 40 minutes, so deny it farm early and force fights before it comes online. Playing the matchup itself: If you are affected by Blight, Varus' abilities will deal extra damage to you. When he gets a kill or assist, Varus temporarily gains Attack Speed and is much more dangerous. You'll get bound in place if a tendril from Varus' ultimate, Chain of Corruption, reaches you. You can cause the tendril to die however by running far enough away from it. Pick a counter from the list above, respect Varus's power spikes, and track its cooldowns so you only commit to trades when its key abilities are down. Counter data updates automatically every patch.
